The International Conference on Montecarlo techniques for medical applications (MCMA2017) was held in Naples from 15 to 18 October 2017.
It has been organized by the Physics Department “Ettore Pancini” of Federico II University of Naples and the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN, Naples section). The conference was also endorsed by AIFM (Italian association for medical physics), ESTRO (European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology) and EFOMP (European Federation of Organisations For Medical Physics).
The aim was to invite developers and users of Monte Carlo techniques applied to medicine in the clinic, industry and academy to present, discuss and spread information on the scientific and technical innovations in application areas. More than 200 people from ten different countries, among speakers and poster, took part at the event. A list of all the invited speakers can be found on the website and it includes Prof. David Rogers, Prof. Alberto del Guerra, Prof. Willi Kalender and many more experts from all over the world.
Thanks to Professor Paolo Russo, chair of MCMA and leader of the Medical Physics section of Naples physics department (http://fisicamedica.fisica.unina.it/index.php/about-us/contacts ), six PONYS members could attend the conference, improving their knowledges on Monte Carlo techniques, doing networking activities and helping the organizing committee before, during and after the conference. Moreover Professor Russo, during the welcome speech, presented PONYS and their activities.
